Open the generatorThis Mischief 1 review sticks to what can be checked. Mischief 1 is an image-to-video model from The Biological Computing Co. (TBC), built on Alibaba's open Wan 2.2 and served through fal and OpenRouter (fal, OpenRouter). We run it inside ClipWhim, so we know its inputs, outputs and price well – but we have not run a controlled quality benchmark, and we do not give it a star rating. Every number below links to its source.
Short verdict
Mischief 1 is a very cheap, narrow tool: one image in, a 3- or 5-second silent 16:9 clip out. It is excellent for iterating on ideas, animating stills and making short loops at low cost. It is the wrong tool if you need text-to-video, sound, vertical video, longer shots or guaranteed top-tier quality.

Strengths
- Price. At $0.025 for a 5-second 480p clip and $0.05 at 720p, it is the cheapest video model in Treza Labs' catalog by a wide margin, and OpenRouter ranks it first of 27 video models on cost (Treza Labs, OpenRouter). For comparison, Wan 2.2 A14B on fal costs $0.04/s at 480p and $0.08/s at 720p (fal).
- Speed. OpenRouter's listing also ranks it first on speed among its video models – a platform latency measurement, not a quality test.
- Image faithfulness for simple motion. In our own showcase clips, camera moves and environmental motion (steam, water, hair, petals) keep the first frame recognisable. You can judge for yourself in the prompt library, which shows real outputs with their exact prompts.
- Prompt help built in. On fal, prompts are rewritten against your image by default ("enhanced" mode) (fal API), which helps short prompts.
Limitations
- No text-to-video, no audio, 16:9 only. No vertical 9:16 for Shorts/Reels/TikTok and no square output.
- Short and 16 fps. 3–5 seconds; fast action can look choppy at 16 fps.
- First frame only. No last-frame or reference-image control (Treza Labs).
- Unverified claims. TBC's speed and quality claims (roughly Wan 2.2-level quality at about 5× the speed) have not been independently benchmarked, and the method behind them is not fully disclosed (TNW, OrigoTech).
- Hard cases. As with most image-to-video models, hands, faces in big motion, readable text and multiple interacting people are where results break most often. Keep motion simple.
- Content policy. Prompts are screened by TBC's policy service before rendering (fal API); some borderline prompts are refused.
What it costs on ClipWhim
On ClipWhim you pay with credits instead of an API key: 1 credit = 1 second of 480p, and 720p costs 2 credits per second, so a 5-second 720p clip is 10 credits. New Google sign-ups get 20 free credits, the Starter Pack is $9 for 200 credits, and subscriptions start at $19/month. Failed generations are refunded automatically.
